I think many people would be horrified to realize that two members of the Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors have blocked the rail trail project, which was supported by about 70% of local voters in 2022.
Manu Koenig helped spearhead the Greenway group, which wanted to tear up the tracks rather than incorporate them into the current plan. No surprise he is still trying to block the voters’ decision, and he perhaps should have recused himself from voting on this latest decision. Bruce McPherson has become a bitter disappointment to those of us who believe our votes count in the local democracy, and not that he would blatantly ignore them.
Shame on both of them.
