Quick Take
A power outage beginning around 2 p.m. on Monday left more than 3,500 Santa Cruzans without power. As of 3 p.m., estimated restoration time was 4:30 p.m.
A power outage took out electricity Monday for at least 3,560 Pacific Gas and Electric customers in downtown Santa Cruz, Beach Flats and parts of the Westside surrounding lower Bay Street and Neary Lagoon.
The outage was initially more widespread, with about 6,500 customers out in total, and stretching into the Seabright and DeLaveaga neighborhoods around 2 p.m., but PG&E’s outage map showed that those areas have since had power restored.
PG&E spokesperson Stephanie Magallon told Lookout that a tree branch fell onto power lines, causing the initial outage. Crews were on scene, and had restored a majority of the customers without power, with just 1,920 remaining in the dark as of 3:15 p.m.
As of 3 p.m., the estimated restoration time for the remaining customers without power was 4:30 p.m. Lookout has reached out to PG&E about what caused the outage.
