Property development

  • The Santa Cruz County Planning Department has received a zoning application regarding 302 Kingsbury Dr. The proposal seeks to renew a permit for a four-bedroom vacation rental in the existing single-family home at this address, allowing overnight stays of up to 30 days at a time. If approved, the renewal would extend the permit’s expiration date from Dec. 15, 2025, to Dec. 15, 2030. (view application)

  • Emilie And The Frenchies at 7564 Soquel Dr., Aptos, passed a county health inspection on April 16 with no critical issues.
     
  • Pixie Deli & Good Eats at 111 Venetian Rd., Aptos, was cited for high-risk violations of unapproved food sources or contaminated food during a county health inspection on April 16. The issues were resolved during the inspection.
     

Roadwork is affecting traffic near you

  • Emergency sewer repairs are taking place on Soquel Drive near Rancho Del Mar. Lane closures and possible traffic delays may happen, weather permitting, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Traffic will be shifted, but only minimal delays are expected during work hours.
     

Community crime report

  • A person was found in possession of obscene material involving minors. The incident happened near the 1000 block of Seacliff Drive at 2 p.m. on April 14. (source)
     
  • A person tried to get away from police, did not follow officers’ orders and broke the rules of their probation. They are also accused of abusing an elderly or dependent adult, causing injury to a spouse, partner, or someone they live with, and violating a domestic violence restraining order. This happened near the 2000 block of Altivo Avenue in La Selva Beach at 3 p.m. on April 3. (source)
     
  • A person was arrested for domestic violence, child cruelty and destroying a communication device. The incident happened near the 3200 block of Merrill Road, Aptos, at 1 p.m. on April 14. (source)
     
  • Police responded to a situation involving violations of a restraining order meant to prevent domestic violence, firing a BB gun in a dangerous way, breaking probation rules,and damaging a wireless communication device. The incident happened near Aptos Beach Drive and Highland Drive in Rio Del Mar at 3 p.m. on April 10. (source)
      
  • A domestic violence incident was reported near Seacliff Drive and Spreckels Drive in Aptos at noon on April 15. (source)
      
  • A burglary, loitering on private property and public intoxication incident happened near the 1000 block of Potter Road, Aptos, at 2 p.m. on April 5. (source)
