Property code violations

County officials cite property owners for issues such as substandard housing, illegal uses of buildings, property maintenance, abandoned appliances or furniture, construction without permits, and other issues that affect public safety and quality of life.

  • The code compliance case NV25326 for the property at 958 30th Ave., Santa Cruz 95062-4305, which was first cited on January 8, has now been resolved. The case involved building code violations related to unpermitted structures that were over height, oversized, or did not meet required setbacks—meaning the structures were built without proper permits, exceeded allowable size or height limits, and/or were too close to property lines in violation of local zoning and building regulations. The property owner has been assessed fees that must be paid to the county as part of the resolution process.

Roadwork is affecting traffic in the region

  • A dark blue Tesla and a white Bronco were involved in a collision on northbound Highway 17 at Laurel in Scotts Valley. The Tesla was reportedly speeding and road raging, which led to the other vehicle colliding with it. Both cars ended up on the right shoulder. No one was injured and there was no blockage of the road. The incident was reported today.

  • South Highway 9 at Lorenzo Avenue in San Lorenzo Valley has one-way traffic because of emergency work. This closure will last until April 1.
