Roadwork is affecting traffic near you

  • Lanes on North SR-17 at Ocean Street/Plymouth Street are closed due to bridge work. The closure was reported yesterday and will end on Oct. 31 at 7:01 a.m.
     
  • Alternating lanes on South SR-17 are closed for bridge work. The closure started yesterday and will end on Oct. 31 at 7:01 a.m.
     
  • Lane closure on North/South SR-1 at Grant Street due to core drilling. Reported on Oct. 28, ending today at 6:01 a.m.
     
  • Long-term projects: A single lane on Capitola Road, between Heritage Lane and Bulb Avenue, is closed for emergency sewer repairs.
     

Property development

  • The Santa Cruz County Planning Department has received a zoning application to convert an existing single-family home at 629 35th Avenue into a two-bedroom vacation rental. This property is located on the western side of 35th Avenue, about 150 feet north of its intersection with Floral Drive. The project requires a Vacation Rental Permit and is currently under review. Residents are encouraged to submit their comments on the proposal by Nov. 15. (view application)
     
  • A permit application has been filed for a new project at 2052 17th Ave, Santa Cruz, proposing the construction of a 1,200 square foot accessory structure that will house an indoor pool to function as a private religious facility, specifically a mikveh. This project requires several approvals, including a Soils Report review, an Administrative Site Development Permit to exceed the standard 640 square foot limit for such structures within the Urban Services Line, and a Conditional Use Permit to operate a religious facility in the R-1-6 residential zone.
