Max Chun was in a Santa Cruz courtroom Tuesday, when Samuel Stone was told he would face murder charges in the February death of UC Santa Cruz student Zainab Mansoor, 21. Judge Denine Guy found that there is “a strong suspicion of guilt” after a prosecutor played a 911 call in which Stone admits to strangling his girlfriend at Seabright Beach.

Hillary Ojeda has covered the turmoil at Live Oak School District at length, and has a preview of this evening’s meeting of the district’s governing board – for which the packed agenda includes appointing a new board member, approving layoffs and voting on a lease deal with a nonprofit that’s been a longtime tenant at a property the district owns.

Jessica M. Pasko is here, too, with her weekly roundup of news, notes, numbers and more from the Santa Cruz County business community. Included are new offerings from Bay Federal Credit Union and an effort to boost the local electric aircraft industry.

Lookout’s Wednesday headlines also include a collection of headlines that national, regional and local media outlines dedicated to our Pulitzer Prize (I won’t lie, we’re still on Cloud 9 about it, and why not?), plus the latest food and drink news from Lily Belli. Let’s go.

Man charged with death of UCSC student at Seabright Beach to face trial for murder

Samuel Stone, 21, will face a murder charge in the February death of Zainab Mansoor. “If he walks away, still, I lost my daughter,” Mansoor’s father, Mansoor Naseem, said after a preliminary hearing Tuesday. “If he gets a full sentence, I still lost my daughter. She meant everything to me.” Max Chun reports.
