Roadwork is affecting traffic in the region

  • One northbound lane on Highway 17 between Santas Village Road and Vine Hill Road in Santa Cruz will be closed during the day for tree removal work from Monday, April 6 through Friday, April 10.

  • The southbound Highway 1 onramp at Buena Vista Drive in Watsonville will have daytime closures starting today. The onramp will be closed off and on from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, for about three weeks.

  • Daytime one-way reversing traffic control will be in place on Highway 9 at the San Lorenzo River and Kings Creek Bridge, north of Boulder Creek in Santa Cruz County, from Monday through Friday this week due to ongoing bridge replacement work.

Property code violations

County officials cite property owners for issues such as substandard housing, illegal uses of buildings, property maintenance, abandoned appliances or furniture, construction without permits, and other issues that affect public safety and quality of life.

  • A code violation notice has been issued for case number **NV25359** at 125 W Hill Rd, Felton, CA 95018-9031. County officials cited the property for two main building code violations: first, the basement was converted into a habitable living space with utility connections—such as plumbing or electricity—without obtaining the required permits; second, a deck and stairs were constructed on the property without the necessary permits or county approvals. These violations involve unauthorized construction and conversion of spaces for habitation and use, all completed without proper permits or inspections from the county.

Restaurant inspections

County officials regularly inspect food facilities to ensure compliance with state laws. Here, Lookout Santa Cruz reports both those who have passed the inspections and those that the county deems to have a “major” issue. The county’s full ongoing report can be accessed here.

  • The Redwood Sandwich Company Llc at 3105 Scotts Valley Dr Ste B, Scotts Valley, passed a county health inspection on April 7 with no critical issues.

  • Auntie Mame’s Cafe at 3103 Scotts Valley Dr, Scotts Valley, passed a county health inspection on April 7 with no critical issues.
