- A dark blue Tesla and a white Bronco were involved in a collision on northbound Highway 17 at Laurel in Scotts Valley. The Tesla was reportedly speeding and road raging, which led to the other vehicle colliding with it. Both cars ended up on the right shoulder. No one was injured and there was no blockage of the road. The incident was reported today.
Property development
- On March 2, the Santa Cruz County Planning Department formally approved a zoning application for a project at No Situs – Dairy Road. The approved project involves drilling a new agricultural well on parcel 052-181-18 to replace an existing well on parcel 052-181-20, which was condemned in anticipation of a water recharge project. The new well will serve approximately 140 acres of commercial farmland, primarily used for strawberries and leafy greens, and will not increase water use or change the current use of the site. The project includes the destruction of the old well and installation of the new well, which will be constructed to a depth of 350 feet with a 22-inch diameter casing. Water conservation measures, such as drip irrigation, are already in place. The project required and received a Coastal Development Permit. (view application)
