Hi friends,
Am I among the last lost Amazonian tribe of clueless dude-bros who’s just now hearing about “Galentine’s Day”? For you men out there, it’s a moment to celebrate fabulous female friendships on the day before Valentine’s Day (Feb. 13), conceived, believe it or not, on a sitcom. For women, yes, you knew all that already. Happy “Ovaries Before Bro-varies” Day!
Now, on with the show.
THIS JUST IN
One of the jazz world’s greatest living performers, trumpeter Terence Blanchard, is coming to the Kuumbwa Jazz Center, with his band E-Collective, for two shows April 9. Also at Kuumbwa, the modern-day masters of Django jazz, the Hot Club of San Francisco, perform May 8. Another member of the talented Marsalis clan, percussionist Jason Marsalis, comes to town May 12, and the quartet The Bad Plus is due May 22. Feel-good singer-songwriter Ziggy Alberts returns to Felton Music Hall on May 13. Psychedelic pioneers James Fadiman and Jordan Gruber are at Bookshop Santa Cruz on March 2. Those psychobilly rockers known as The Chop Tops will come out of retirement for two shows at Moe’s Alley on Dec. 12 and 13. And, in an echo of what once used to be billed as A Gay Evening in May, Santa Cruz Pride is marking the 50th anniversary of Pride with A Queer Evening in May with musical performances from many local artists, May 29 at the Kuumbwa.
