A 4-mile paving project will cause delays on Highway 1 in southern Santa Cruz County over the next three weeks.

According to a release from the California Department of Transportation, there will be overnight ramp and lane closures at various locations from about a mile north of the bridge at Buena Vista Drive in Watsonville to the bridge at Rio Del Mar Boulevard in Aptos.

A single lane of northbound Highway 1 may be closed overnight Sundays from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., and Monday through Thursday from 6:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. A single southbound lane may be closed overnight Sundays from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., and Monday through Thursday from 7:30 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Intermittent overnight closures of some ramps within the project area could also occur, northbound ramps between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. Sundays and 6:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Thursday, and southbound ramps between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. Sundays and 7:30 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday through Thursday.

Motorists could face delays of up to 10 minutes during those periods, the department said. But no ramp or lane closures will be in effect between Friday at 7 a.m. and Sunday at 7 p.m.

Watsonville-based Granite Rock Construction is completing the work as part of a $5.7 million project expected to be completed by Nov. 15.
