The Santa Cruz Police Department, in collaboration with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, has made an arrest in the shooting outside of the Crow’s Nest restaurant in early August.
After about a monthlong investigation, and with assistance from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, officers arrested 27-year-old Moses Dollar in Los Angeles and charged him with attempted homicide. He was arrested last Wednesday and was transported to the Santa Cruz County Jail on Monday.
Investigators identified another woman, Jakaella Porter, as associated with the case. She has an outstanding warrant for her arrest on charges of conspiracy and attempted homicide.
Two people ended up in critical condition in the incident, according to a SCPD release, and launched a police investigation focused on initial reports of someone firing shots that night and then driving off in a black Dodge Charger.
SCPD Lieutenant Karina Ceceña was not immediately available for comment on whether investigators have identified a motive in the shooting or what the connection is between the suspects and victims.
The shooting alarmed many due to its proximity to the popular Thursday Night Beach BBQ series, which had drawn a big family-friendly crowd that night. In the wake of the incident, the Santa Cruz Port District decided to cancel the weekly event for the remainder of the summer.
