The Santa Cruz–Scotts Valley Intertie Project is nearing completion as crews prepare to pave the roadway on La Madrona Drive in early August.
The project involves establishing a new connection between the Santa Cruz and Scotts Valley Water Districts allowing them to easily share water that has already been treated. The intertie will be the final link connecting all public water agencies from La Selva Beach to the San Lorenzo Valley. The project will allow local water agencies to more easily draw from both ground and surface water sources without overusing either.
Crews will pave La Madrona drive on Saturday, Aug. 9, to prevent disrupting weekday traffic. While the work is ongoing, the northbound lane will be closed, and the southbound lane will remain open with one-way alternating traffic controls.
Highway 17, Sims Road, and Mount Hermon Road will serve as the main detours.
