A sinkhole that opened along southbound Highway 1 outside Watsonville on Sunday morning was still causing delays for commuters on Monday, though Caltrans was aiming to have it patched up by evening.

The sinkhole is located between the Buena Vista Drive exit and the Airport Boulevard exit in the left lane of southbound Highway 1. The left lane of the highway was closed about a half-mile north of Watsonville, and was to remain closed into Monday, according to a California Highway Patrol social media post.

On Monday afternoon, Caltrans spokesperson Kevin Drabinski told Lookout that the agency would have the road repaired and lane open for traffic by 6 p.m.
