In a unanimous decision Tuesday, the Santa Cruz City Council denied an appeal by a local business owner that would have limited Woodhouse Blending and Brewing’s live music events, upholding the zoning commission’s decision to expand the Santa Cruz craft brewery’s use permit to allow outdoor entertainment. Local business owner Guy Mitchell and his wife, real estate agent Stacey Mitchell, said they don’t want to stop Woodhouse’s live music events completely, but do want to decrease the noise level, which they say has disrupted nearby businesses.

After Santa Cruz’s planning commission voted in September to expand Woodhouse Blending & Brewing’s use permit to allow outdoor entertainment, a neighboring business owner has appealed the decision, expressing concern that the events would lower the value of an apartment complex he plans to someday build on the site. The city council will vote whether to uphold Woodhouse’s change of use on Nov. 19.

Four-year-old Santa Cruz brewery Woodhouse Blending & Brewing is moving forward with a satellite location in a small Westside shopping center near the entrance to UC Santa Cruz. The pizza restaurant and taproom was approved by the city’s zoning administration on Wednesday, and could open in early 2025.
