Road incidents as of 9:30 p.m. on September 4

  • A traffic hazard was reported at 8:51 p.m. today at 247 El Rancho Dr in Scotts Valley, blocking both lanes. CHP was checking on when help would arrive.
     
  • A semi truck crash happened on southbound Highway 17 at Sugarloaf Rd in Scotts Valley, closing both southbound lanes. The northbound number 1 lane was also closed at Vine Hill because of the same crash. Caltrans set up two-way traffic on the northbound side, with southbound cars using the northbound number 1 lane and northbound cars using the number 2 lane. Southbound traffic was being turned around at the restaurants just south of Summit Rd. The incident caused major traffic delays and required ongoing traffic control. This was reported today.
     
  • A semi-truck gasoline tanker overturned around 6:45 a.m. today on southbound Highway 17 near Sugarloaf Road in Scotts Valley. The crash blocked both directions of the highway. Gasoline leaked onto the road and down an embankment. Fire and hazmat crews responded, and the driver had head and arm injuries but was conscious and breathing. Major traffic diversions and lane closures were in place throughout the day for cleanup and recovery.
     
  • CHP helped with a construction project at the intersection of Highway 1 North and State Route 152 in Watsonville / Pajaro. This was reported today.
     
  • There was a construction-related incident on northbound Highway 1 at Buena Vista in the Watsonville / Pajaro area. CHP assisted with the situation. The incident was reported today.
     
  • CHP helped with a construction project on northbound Highway 1 at Soquel in the Eastside / Live Oak area today.
     
  • A hit and run crash with injuries happened today at 5:46 p.m. at the intersection of Graham Hill Rd and Sims Rd in the Eastside / Live Oak area. The crash involved a gray Ram pickup and a black Subaru sedan. Both drivers got out of their vehicles after the collision. Tow services were called, and one of the vehicles was towed by Ladds Tow.
     

Long-term projects

These have been going on for a while, but are still worth keeping in mind.

  • PG&E has started work to replace a gas main in the Arroyo and Jolon Drive neighborhood off Green Valley Road in Corralitos / Freedom. There is a soft road closure in the area, and construction is expected to continue through November 25.
