U.S. Rep. Zoe Lofgren has landed a $900,000 grant for Encompass Community Services’ Sí Se Puede behavioral health center, currently under construction in Watsonville. She presented the award at the project site last week.

The funding will go toward purchasing furniture, information technology equipment and items for the kitchen, bedrooms and communal living spaces at the facility. The residential and outpatient substance abuse and mental health programs housed at the center will be able to offer bilingual treatment to about 900 people each year, according to Encompass.

“One of my top priorities as a Member of Congress is ensuring that constituents in California’s 18th congressional district have access to comprehensive care, no matter the language they speak,” Lofgren, whose district includes parts of Santa Cruz, Monterey and Santa Clara counties and all of San Benito County, said in a media release. “I was very encouraged to hear that this facility was being built to offer bilingual services to hundreds and hundreds of our community members. It’s my pleasure to deliver this $900,000 check to ensure that this facility has the capacity to serve more clients and change more lives.”

The new behavioral health facility is scheduled to open at 161 Miles Lane in July, and will provide personalized, bilingual treatment services to members of the community in South County. Learn more about the project here.
