Interested in lighting up fireworks this Fourth of July? The Watsonville Police Activities League opened its “Safe & Sane Fireworks” booth for legal purchases of fireworks from authorized vendors.
The booth will be open until Friday, July 4, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Located at the Home Depot parking lot on 355 S. Green Valley Rd., every purchase helps fund youth programs and services.
Only fireworks with the state fire marshal’s seal of approval, such as safe & sane fireworks, are allowed in the City of Watsonville, and they are allowed to be ignited only through Saturday, July 5. Illegal fireworks can be reported through the Watsonville Police Department mobile app or by calling 831-471-1151.
If you plan to use Safe & Sane fireworks this Independence Day, the Watsonville Police Department encourages residents to:
- Always read directions.
- Have an adult present.
- Use fireworks outdoors only.
- Never use fireworks near dry grass or other flammable materials.
- Light one firework at a time.
- Keep a bucket of water and a hose nearby.
- Sweep up all debris afterward to prevent trash from entering our storm drains.
