I’m a longtime resident of the Santa Cruz area and lover of good beer. I’m lucky enough to live on the Westside, where I can walk to several places that sell fine beer. However, I have reached the age where hearing in noisy environments is getting harder and harder, and so have a lot of my friends. Not only are our options being reduced because of the loud music in so many bars, and now breweries, too.

But, I have been confronted by a complete lack of sympathy in one particular establishment when politely asking if the music might be turned down. I won’t name the place. Their beer is good and I might even go back when I’ve calmed down.

We oldies are beer drinkers. We are local beer drinkers. We buy your beer on the days the tourists stay away. And we serve the respect and consideration our silver hairs should be signaling.

Turn that music down.
