Pumpkins, produce and family-friendly fun will fill the fields of Watsonville Slough Farm this weekend as the Día de Esperanza Community Organic Agriculture Festival returns for its second year. Hosted by Esperanza Community Farms, a cooperative of 22 small organic farmers, the two-day event features a kids zone, pumpkin patch, organic farmers market, live music and wellness activities.

The free festival highlights Esperanza’s mission to make healthy, organic food accessible to all families across the Central Coast through its community-supported agriculture (CSA) program. Seventy-five percent of CSA members are farmworkers who receive weekly produce boxes on a sliding payment scale to promote affordability.

“This festival is all about people, fun and good food,” said Mireya Gomez-Contreras, executive director of Esperanza Community Farms, in a media release. “It celebrates organic farming and a future based on caring relationships. Not only is this a gathering of new friends and multi-generational families from across the Central Coast, it’s with intention and a view toward a just future, remembering the Earth at the center of it all.”

The festival runs Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 275 Lee Rd., Watsonville, adjacent to the farm on Land Trust of Santa Cruz County property.
