California Giant Berry Farms will be hosting its annual Skirt Steak BBQ in Watsonville on Aug. 19.

The berry producer plans to serve more than 1,000 meals – all made from locally sourced food – out of its Watsonville office, including the company’s skirt steak, fresh salad and garlic bread.

The barbecue is a fundraiser for California Giant Foundation the company’s 501(c)(3) nonprofit that distributes money to local causes and organizations working in community health and wellness near its Watsonville offices.

It’s the 19th year for the barbecue, which began as a 50-person lunch and has evolved into an annual tradition. Last year, the event raised $46,000 for nonprofits such as CASA of Santa Cruz County, Jacob’s Heart Children’s Cancer Support Services, Teen Kitchen Project, Pajaro Valley Loaves and Fishes and Pajaro Valley Shelter Services. The company has not yet announced the recipients of this year’s fundraiser.

This year, the BBQ will be recognized as Donor of the Year to the Food Bank of Santa Cruz County.
