To address the critical shortage of farmworker housing in the Salinas and Pajaro valleys, it is estimated that the region will need more than 33,000 units of farmworker housing to alleviate critical overcrowding. Approximately 16 percent of hospitality and tourism workers lost their job in 2020 due to a permanent closure or layoff. At a time of high economic insecurity, Monterey Bay Economic Partnership has taken the lead to help displaced hospitality and tourism workers find new opportunities for their skills and experience.
