The California Coastal Commission unanimously voted to fine an Aptos homeowners association nearly $5 million for blocking access to a pedestrian path along Seacliff State Beach that the state had ordered to be public. Aptos library opening delayed until February
The opening of the Aptos branch of the Santa Cruz Public Libraries is delayed until mid-February. The reason is a noise-reduction sound-baffling system to be set up in the children’s area of the new library. The system was originally cut from the project’s budget, but was later restored.

Aptos is a sans serif font, which is designed to be easily readable and features letters that are simpler, with fewer flourishes. Microsoft said Steve Matteson designed the typeface “with a slight humanist touch.”

Seacliff State Beach still closed after suffering ‘catastrophic’ damage to pier, seawall, campground in storms
Ocean swells destroyed a seawall at Seacliff State Beach and wiped out 63 campsites and 26 hookup sites. Recent storms also destroyed half of the pier at Seacliff and left the remaining sections “severely damaged.” Chris Spohrer, district superintendent for the Santa Cruz District of California State Parks, warned that forecasts were calling for another large, western swell to hit the area Friday.
