Lin-Manuel Miranda’s “In the Heights,” which opens July 12 at the Crocker Theater at Cabrillo College, marks a transition at Cabrillo Stage, perhaps even the beginning of a significant new era. In her second season, artistic director Andrea Hart is looking to bring about a new stylistic era at Cabrillo Stage, one that might hopefully bring in a new generation and even a new cultural vibe.

Santa Cruz County’s ‘Shark Park’ has been especially active this year — perfect for shark tours
Over the past 10 years, an area of Soquel Cove between New Brighton State Beach and Rio Del Mar has earned the title “Shark Park” due to the increasingly high number of juvenile white sharks spotted in its waters during the summer months. This year, though, researchers have seen a ton of sharks, even for Shark Park — and they have some thoughts as to why that might be happening.

New Leaf Markets sets October departure date for downtown Santa Cruz store
New Leaf Community Markets will close its downtown Santa Cruz store on Oct. 15, and plans to open a new store with a much larger footprint on River Street in 2025. Later this year, New Leaf will also open a larger Capitola location on 41st Avenue and celebrate five years in Aptos.
