New guide to Big Basin’s Redwood Loop published
A new guide to the Redwood Loop Trail at Big Basin Redwoods State Park has been published. Written by a team of biologists and environmental scientists, it addresses the effects of the catastrophic 2020 fire on the park and the long-term changes to the landscape that it ushered in, including the impact on plants and animals in the park.
Vote no on Measure U – use common sense and read the impartial analysis of consequences for SLV Water
Measure U makes no sense, writes Nancy B. Macy, a 50-year resident of Boulder Creek. The measure asks voters in the San Lorenzo Valley Water District to reverse a recent water bill hike and cap future charges. Macy sees the measure as shortsighted and foolish and against all the advice of experts. “Was the structure of the rate increase responsible? Thoughtfully designed by experts? Legally adopted? Is the rate increase necessary and was it carefully considered with public input and adapted to customer needs? Yes, yes, yes and yes!” she writes, while urging a no vote.

De Serpa, Martinez widen money advantage in supervisor races
Kim De Serpa and Monica Martinez widened their fundraising advantage over Kristen Brown and Christopher Bradford, respectively, in their campaigns for the District 2 and District 5 seats on the Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors, according to campaign finance reports that were due Thursday. In the District 2 race, De Serpa has cash on hand, while Brown reported spending slightly more money than she has brought in. In the District 5 race, Martinez has a nearly 3-to-1 fundraising advantage over Bradford.

Boulder Creek man dies in solo crash after brief chase
A 36-year-old Boulder Creek man died in a single-vehicle crash on southbound Highway 9 at Two Bar Road on Thursday night, after veering off the road and crashing into a tree, according to the California Highway Patrol.
