Wild Poppies: Two sisters harvest liquid gold from their Aptos Hills farm

Wild Poppies – a small local olive oil business – was created by two sisters, Kim Null and Jamie de Sieyes. Their award-winning olive oil is available locally at New Leaf in Santa Cruz County and Half Moon Bay, EatLocal.Farm, Shoppers Corner, and Davenport Roadhouse in Santa Cruz County. You can also find them at the Saturday Aptos Cabrillo College Farmer’s Market.

Virtual Watsonville Film Festival is up and running

Take a break from commercial movie platforms, and enjoy a week of independent Latinx films at the 9th Annual Watsonville Film Festival, March 5-13 at watsonvillefilmfest.org. Watsonville Film Festival spotlights women in film and community

Since 2012, the Watsonville Film Festival (WFF) has made it a point to celebrate and uplift women behind, and in front of, the camera. In 2021, WFF will continue this tradition, presenting a program where the majority of films are directed by women and/or focused on women. This year, the Festival is also partnering with the Watsonville International Women’s Day Coalition to celebrate local women who are challenging the status quo during a special online event Monday, March 8 at 7pm.

Introducing Watsonville Film Festival’s new look: a virtual cinema with free access to award-winning films

Under the theme “Stories Matter,” the 9th annual Watsonville Film Festival will spotlight 20 award-winning indie and local films, running from March 5-13. The program also includes a series of online special events, including Q&As with filmmakers. All films and events will be available for free at watsonvillefilmfest.org. Stepping up to serve: thousands give back through the Volunteer Center of Santa Cruz County

The Volunteer Center of Santa Cruz County re-envisioned its programs and initiatives to meet the needs and challenges of 2020. More than 10,000 volunteers helped through mask making, grocery shopping for seniors, staffing emergency shelters, distributing free food, online tutoring, and disseminating emergency preparedness information.
