Watsonville gardeners can now enrich their gardens with free compost from the city’s Waste and Recycling Drop-Off Center

Adding compost to your garden improves both nutrient variety and soil water retention, boosting the health of your plants and preventing water from running off into streets and storm drains.

The compost offered is a direct product of the food and garden scraps Watsonville residents throw into green curbside compost bins. Proper disposal of that organic waste not only supports the environment but also Watsonville’s compost program, which brings a reciprocal component to local waste management.

The giveaway program is limited to residents and businesses in the city of Watsonville. Those interested must bring an ID or addressed envelope to prove city residence.

To collect the free compost, bring your own container and shovels to the drop-off center any time between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday. The center is located at 320 Harvest Dr., Gate 4, in Watsonville.
