A reported lockdown Thursday morning at Santa Cruz High School was confirmed to be a drill by a staffer in the school’s main office.
Just before 9 a.m., a Facebook user posted to the Santa Cruz County 411 page, a place for locals to post real-time traffic, police activity and more, claiming that Santa Cruz High had gone into lockdown.
Lookout reached the school’s main office by phone, and a staff member confirmed that it was a drill. She said the fact it was a drill was mentioned in the announcement on the public address system, so students and staff were aware.
The school is operating as normal after the drill.
There is currently heightened security at Santa Cruz County high schools following the discovery of a gun in a bag near Aptos High School on Sunday and the arrest of a juvenile in connection with that case.
