The City of Watsonville shared footage of another mountain lion sighting in a residential neighborhood this week.
Cellphone video shows the lion sitting behind a car on a residential street. The most recent report located the lion on Loma Vista Drive near Watsonville Slough in the Seaview Ranch neighborhood.
In addition to Watsonville, cougars have been seen entering residential areas across Aptos, Santa Cruz and Capitola since late April.
In a social media post, the Watsonville Police Department said it has received no reports of aggressive lions over the past few weeks.
Since mountain lions are specially protected in California, police can intervene only if the animal poses an immediate threat to public safety. As a result, police forward reports of peaceful mountain lion sightings to the California Department of Fish & Wildlife.
If the lion does not pose an immediate risk, you can report it directly to the Department of Fish & Wildlife through its online wildlife incident report form.
If you encounter a lion, raise your arms, speak loudly and back away slowly. Pick up any small animals or children and do not leave them outdoors overnight. If the lion behaves aggressively, immediately call 911.
