Property development

• On January 23, the Santa Cruz County Planning Department formally approved a zoning application for a new vacation rental at 544 Beach Drive in Aptos. The project will allow the operation of a three-bedroom vacation rental within the existing single-family home at this address. The home, which has a total internal area of 1,822 square feet, includes three bedrooms, multiple bathrooms, a kitchen, living and dining areas, a garage, balcony, deck, and porch. The approved permit allows the property to be rented for overnight lodging for periods of up to 30 days at a time, in accordance with the county’s Vacation Rental Permit requirements. Roadwork is affecting traffic in the region

• South Highway 1 at Soquel Drive in Eastside / Live Oak is facing closures for K-rail installation. The closure will last until 5:59 a.m. on February 2.
   
• There is a one-way traffic closure on South Highway 9 at Lorenzo Avenue in San Lorenzo Valley because of emergency work. This closure will last until April 1.
   
• Highway 9 at Pool Drive in San Lorenzo Valley has alternating lane closures because of bridge work. The closures are expected to end at 4:59 p.m. on February 2.
   
• South Highway 17 at Sugarloaf Road in Scotts Valley is facing closures for emergency work. The closure is expected to end at 4:59 a.m. tomorrow.
