Property development

  • A permit application has been filed for a project at 219 SPRECKELS Drive in Aptos, proposing to remodel and expand the existing residence and construct a detached garage on the property. The project requires a Coastal Development Permit, as well as variances to allow for larger nonconforming dimensions and to reduce the required front yard setback for the garage entrance from 18 feet to 15 feet. Additionally, a soils report review will be necessary as part of the application process. (view details)
     

Restaurant inspections

County officials regularly inspect food facilities to ensure compliance with state laws. Here, Lookout Santa Cruz reports both those who have passed the inspections and those that the county deems to have a “major” issue. The county’s full ongoing report can be accessed here.

  • Sno White Drive-in at 223 State Park Dr, Aptos, passed a county health inspection on December 5 with no critical issues.
     

Roadwork is affecting traffic in the region

  • Long-term projects: – Overnight ramp and lane closures are happening on Highway 1 between Riverside and Larkin Valley in Santa Cruz County from Sunday, December 7, through Friday, December 12, for road striping and maintenance. – The southbound Highway 1 off-ramp at Park Avenue in Santa Cruz County will be closed on Tuesday, December 9, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for soundwall construction. – A long-term lane closure continues on Highway 9 between Lorenzo Ave and Prospect Ave, about .9 miles south of the Route 236 junction in Santa Cruz County, for retaining wall and drainage replacement.
     

Community crime report

  • A person was given a citation and released because of a warrant for not appearing in court for petty theft. The incident happened near W Levee & Soquel Bridge, Santa Cruz at 11 a.m on December 3. (source)
