Roadwork is affecting traffic in the region

  • An RV was parked in the bike lane at Brommer St. and 30th Ave., creating a traffic hazard. This was reported today.

  • The southbound lanes of Highway 1 are completely facing closures. This closure will continue until August 29 at 6:30 a.m.

  • The northbound onramp from Ocean Street to Highway 1 was closed for maintenance today. The California Highway Patrol assisted with the work.

Property code violations

County officials cite property owners for issues such as substandard housing, illegal uses of buildings, property maintenance, abandoned appliances or furniture, construction without permits, and other issues that affect public safety and quality of life.

  • A code violation notice has been issued for the property located at 4622 W Walnut St., Soquel, CA 95073-2161, under case number NV25272. The violations involve construction and remodeling activities that were conducted without the necessary permits. Specifically, the property owner created what appear to be three separate units, labeled as units A, B, and C, without obtaining the required approvals from the county. Residents are reminded of the importance of securing proper permits to ensure compliance with local building codes and regulations.

Restaurant inspections

County officials regularly inspect food facilities to ensure compliance with state laws. Here, Lookout Santa Cruz reports both those who have passed the inspections and those that the county deems to have a “major” issue. The county’s full ongoing report can be accessed here.

  • Trestles Restaurant at 316 Capitola Ave. Unit A, Capitola, passed a county health inspection on July 24 with no critical issues.
