Property development

  • The Santa Cruz County Planning Department has received a zoning application for a project at 320 12th Ave. The proposal seeks to renew a permit to operate a two-bedroom vacation rental at this address, which is located on the eastern side of 12th Avenue, approximately 130 feet northeast of the intersection with Prospect Street in Santa Cruz. The renewal of this vacation rental requires approval of a Vacation Rental Permit. (view application)

  • A permit application has been filed for a project at 320 35th Ave., Santa Cruz, proposing to remodel and expand the existing single-family home. The plans include adding 162 square feet to the second story, constructing a new 637 square-foot rooftop deck on the first story, and replacing the current flat roof with a gable/hip roof design. This change would increase the building’s height from 18 to 27 feet. Because the property is located in the coastal zone, a Coastal Development Permit is required for the project. Property code violations

County officials cite property owners for issues such as substandard housing, illegal uses of buildings, property maintenance, abandoned appliances or furniture, construction without permits, and other issues that affect public safety and quality of life.

  • The code compliance case NV25338 for the property at 2331 Mattison Lane, Santa Cruz, first cited on Jan. 27, has now been resolved. The violations included operating a commercial activity on a residentially zoned (R-1-6) parcel, installing an additional electric meter without the required permits, and keeping bees in violation of R-1 zoning regulations. The property owner has addressed these issues and is now responsible for paying assessed fees to the county as part of the resolution process.
