Roadwork is affecting traffic in the region
- A fire was reported near the Morrissey Blvd. onramp to southbound Highway 1, with smoke seen coming from an encampment by the soundwall on the curve of the onramp. The fire department was called, but when they arrived, no smoke was visible. The incident was reported today.
- Northbound Highway 1 is facing closures at Route 129 in the Watsonville / Pajaro area because of electrical work. The closure is expected to end at 2:59 p.m. on August 21.
- A lane on southbound Highway 1 at Buena Vista Drive in Watsonville / Pajaro is closed for emergency work. The closure is expected to end at 6:59 a.m. today.
- There is one-way traffic control on Highway 9 at Prospect Avenue in San Lorenzo Valley because of emergency work. The closure is expected to end at 3:59 p.m. on August 23.
- A lane on North Highway 9 at mile marker 13.6 in San Lorenzo Valley is closed for utility work. The closure is expected to end at 5:01 p.m. tomorrow.
- A lane on north Highway 17 at Spanish Bit Chapel in Scotts Valley is closed for utility work. The closure is expected to end at 5:01 a.m. today.
- Long-term projects: – Sims Rd and La Madrona Drive from Brook Knoll Road to 600 La Madrona Drive: One lane will be closed on Sims Rd and La Madrona Drive from Brook Knoll Road to 600 La Madrona Drive between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. for a pipeline project by SCWD and SLVWD. Traffic control will be in place. This closure is expected to last until February 2026.
– Richmond Dr (Portola Drive at 24th Avenue): Richmond Drive and Portola Drive at 24th Avenue will have traffic delays and lane closures for the Rodeo pump station upgrade project. The closure runs from February 25 through September 30, with work usually from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. There will be special construction hours from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on April 12-13. The schedule may change due to weather.
– Southbound Highway 17 off-ramp at La Madrona Drive, Santa Cruz County: The southbound Highway 17 off-ramp at La Madrona Drive will be closed on Saturday, August 9, from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Both directions of La Madrona Drive will have traffic control during this time.
– Highway 1 near the Buena Vista Drive exit, Santa Cruz County: Emergency repairs and culvert replacement are ongoing on southbound Highway 1 near the Buena Vista Drive exit. Crews will be working throughout the week of August 4 to August 8, including clearing vegetation.
