Max Chun is up first with an update on a housing complex planned along Capitola Road in Live Oak. The project led by Santa Cruz developer Workbench has been pared back somewhat, but some neighbors still aren’t on board.
Christopher Neely checked in with Assemblymember Dawn Addis, whose district includes parts of Santa Cruz County, about a bill that would have forced fossil fuel companies to pay for climate disasters. That legislation is on hold after a big lobbying push, but Addis says she’s aiming to get it back on track in 2026.
The day’s headlines also include the California Highway Patrol releasing the identity of the Soquel man killed earlier this week in an e-bike crash – onward.

Scaled-down Capitola Road apartment complex moves ahead over objections of nearby residents
Santa Cruz County has approved a preapplication for a Workbench-led housing development on Capitola Road in Live Oak that has changed considerably since its inception three years ago. However, residents in the area are still displeased with the project as they await public hearings on the development. Max Chun has the update.
