Capitola has a new police chief, with the city appointing Sarah Ryan to take over for the retiring Andrew Dally. She’ll be the first woman to hold the job.
The Lookout Editorial Board continues its endorsements for the Nov. 5 election. Friday’s focus is on Watsonville, where the board weighs in on Measure V, which would expand eligibility for city boards and commissions, and in the only city council race that’s being contested, where Trina Coffman-Gomez is challenging incumbent Jimmy Dutra for the District 6 seat.

Lookout’s night at the Pulitzers
On Thursday evening, Lookout Santa Cruz formally received the 2024 Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News, a recognition of the work done during the catastrophic January 2023 storms in Santa Cruz County. A contingent led by managing editor Tamsin McMahon and CEO Ken Doctor was on hand in New York to accept. More on the scene.
Sarah Ryan will be Capitola’s new police chief, first woman in job
The City of Capitola announced Friday that Capt. Sarah Ryan has been appointed as the city’s new chief of police, the first woman to hold the position. She’ll take over for Andrew Dally, who is retiring, on Nov. 24. Details here.
