Roadwork is affecting traffic in the region

  • A traffic collision happened at 6:46 a.m. today at the intersection of Highway 1 and Struve Road in Watsonville/Pajaro. The crash involved a gray Mazda M3 and a silver Honda Odyssey minivan. Emergency services and a tow truck responded to the scene.

  • CHP helped with construction on Highway 1 South at the Park Ave. offramp in Capitola / Soquel. The incident started at 5:44 a.m. as a request for traffic control and then changed to assisting with construction. Two CHP units were called: one to do a traffic break starting at Bay Porter, and another to help at the scene. There was a scheduling issue because the offramp closure was supposed to happen at 6:00 a.m. instead of 7:00 a.m. This was reported today.

  • Long-term projects: – A long-term lane closure is still in place on Highway 9 between Lorenzo Ave and Prospect Ave, about .9 miles south of the Route 236 junction in Santa Cruz County, for work on a retaining wall and drainage. – Overnight ramp and lane closures on Highway 1 between Riverside and Larkin Valley Road in Santa Cruz County will take place from Sunday, December 7, through Friday, December 12, for road striping and maintenance.

Property development

  • A permit application has been filed for a project at 16020 EMPIRE Grade in Santa Cruz, proposing the installation of fire and domestic water tanks, a fire water pump system, and new security fencing with a gate. The planned work is set to occur on the south side of Bertoli Drive, approximately 70 feet south of its intersection with Empire Grade. Because of the location, a Coastal Development Permit is required for the project. (view details)
