On Monday Jan. 6, the Santa Cruz Fire and Police Department responded to a vehicle fire at Highway 1 and River Street at 10 a.m. According to a press release put out by the fire department on Facebook, no one was injured, the fire was not suspicious in nature, and the vehicle was a total loss.

The fire was an accident, according to City of Santa Cruz spokesperson Katie Lee, but she didn’t know what caused it. The driver was the only one in the car and was able to remove themselves from the burning Volkswagen Westfalia camper van.

Someone posted on the fire department’s Facebook post, asking whether there were two dogs within the burning van. However, Lee said there were no animals present on the scene.
