A former high school volleyball player and social worker who grew up in the San Lorenzo Valley with two mothers, Sarah Ryan brings a diverse perspective to her role as only the second woman to lead a law enforcement agency in Santa Cruz County’s history.

Ruby Lee is a newsroom intern at Lookout Santa Cruz, and while she’s not native to Santa Cruz County, her roots have been growing here since August 2021.
Ruby’s career in journalism blossomed when she began writing for Cabrillo College’s school paper, The Voice, where eventually she became editor-in-chief. She currently edits student articles and works with her mentor, Alexandria Bordas, to teach student journalists how to become future reporters.
Since the start of her career, Ruby has written numerous stories ranging from local politics to profiles of local business owners for multiple papers within the county. Her favorite part of the job is getting to meet all of the wonderful people of Santa Cruz County and establishing connections all across the region.
When she isn’t writing professionally, you can find Ruby at rock climbing gyms, spending time with her friends and dog, or skating curbs and bowls around town.
