Cal Fire is planning a 5-acre prescribed burn in the Soquel Demonstration State Forest on Tuesday. It is scheduled to occur between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., and will take place near the upper helipad within the forest. The agency said smoke could “linger in the area for several days afterward.”
The burn was originally scheduled for Dec. 3 but postponed due to unfavorable weather conditions. It is authorized under a smoke-management permit to mitigate smoke impacts on nearby communities, and also seeks to promote the health of the coast redwood ecosystem by preventing the spread of non-native plants, encouraging native species regeneration, restoring wildlife habitat and enhancing public safety.
California State Parks is also planning prescribed burns in the Forest of Nisene Marks State Park in early December and continuing through late January.
