California State Parks will conduct prescribed burns at Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park on Wednesday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. The burns will take place in the Old Growth Redwood Loop and along Pipeline Road.
The park aims to reduce the risk of large-scale wildfires and maintain the health of the old growth redwood forest through these controlled burns. The project also aims to protect nearby residential areas from potential fire hazards.
While the Old Growth Redwood Loop Trail and Pipeline Road will remain open during the burns, visitors should note the impact to air quality.
Park staff will monitor the burn piles 24/7 for several days following the ignitions and react to weather and wind conditions to ensure the fires burn only during optimal smoke dispersal conditions.
