The Santa Cruz Police Department is warning Santa Cruz residents and visitors about fraudulent parking citations being distributed in the beach area.
In a post on social media, the agency said the fake tickets include a QR code linking to a scam website intended to collect payments from unsuspecting victims.
The department also said that it was unclear how many citations were issued or how many people have paid the bogus fines. Authorities are urging anyone who receives a parking citation to carefully review the fine print.
Those who find suspicious tickets should contact the City of Santa Cruz Parking Office or report it directly to the SCPD investigations unit at 831-420-5820.
For questions about the legitimacy of a citation, residents can call the parking office at 831-420-6100.
