Three people are in hospital, two with critical injuries, after a collision among four different motorcycles on Highway 9 in the Santa Cruz Mountains.

Around 2:47 p.m. Sunday, the California Highway Patrol and firefighters responded to a four-person collision near Shingle Mill Road.

A 29-year-old man from Santa Clara was heading south on Highway 9 near Shingle Mill Road on a 2025 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle when he crossed into a northbound lane, colliding with a 39-year-old man from Sunnyvale who was riding a 2020 BMW.

The Kawasaki then hit a 2020 KTM motorcycle driven by a 25-year-old Royal Oaks man, which was also traveling north. The KTM crossed into the southbound lanes, striking a 47-year-old man on a 2014 BMW.

The 29-year-old and 25-year-old are in critical condition after sustaining major injuries. The 47-year-old sustained minor injuries and is in moderate condition. The three motorcyclists are being treated at Valley Medical Center. The fourth, a 39-year-old, is uninjured.

CHP Public Information Officer Israel Murillo told Lookout that the three injured men remained in hospital Tuesday. He said the investigation into the collision continues and that no one has been charged.

Police said all motorcyclists were wearing helmets at the time. Drugs or alcohol were also not considered factors in the crash.
