Quick Take
UC Santa Cruz police have arrested former student Tony Pau in connection with multiple voyeurism, burglary and theft incidents reported in campus housing earlier this year.
UC Santa Cruz police arrested a former UCSC student and accused him of multiple incidents of unauthorized video recording and theft on the school’s campus earlier this year.
Police charged Tony Pau, of Daly City, with four counts of “peeping tom” – violations of the voyeurism law – and one count each of burglary and grand theft, according to a UCSC news release sent via email to campus. He was arrested at his home. Santa Cruz County Superior Court records show the incidents occurred on Feb. 11 and March 4.
Earlier this month, two UCSC students who were living on the fourth floor of John R. Lewis College Building 4 this past year told Lookout they had their clothes stolen and saw an iPhone camera recording them while they showered. At least two other students on the same floor of the same building reported similar incidents this year.
The students told Lookout they believed the same individual was responsible for the offenses. They accused the university of failing to adequately address the lack of barriers for someone to enter their bathroom and commit the crimes, compared to other bathrooms on campus.
The Daly City police and UCSC police departments didn’t immediately return requests for comment Wednesday morning regarding the arrest – for example, which was the arresting agency, how Pau was identified as the suspect and where he was being held.
Court records show the criminal complaint was filed June 12 and bail was filed June 20.
Chief Kevin Domby said in a statement that the suspect was detained “through the dedicated work of UC Santa Cruz Police Department officers, detectives, and with assistance from allied agencies.”
