Applications for the Watsonville Police Department’s Cadet Program are now open. The program provides learning opportunities for Santa Cruz County’s youth, giving them the chance to be under the wing of officers.
The program is open to those aged 14 to 20 who have a passion for public service and are interested in gaining hands-on experience in law enforcement.
Applications can be found here; those interested in participating can also visit the police department’s lobby at 215 Union St. Completed applications must be submitted in person Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
In order to be a part of this program, applicants must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA if enrolled in high school. Mandatory cadet meetings will be held every other Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. Cadets will also be required to dedicate at least 16 hours of community service each month and take part in community events.
The deadline to apply is July 1. All eligible applicants will be invited to an informational night before the program’s start.
