The Watsonville Police Department is investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred early Tuesday morning at the intersection of South Green Valley Road and Carey Avenue. The victim died in the hospital on Wednesday night.

Alfonso Rodriguez was 51, according to his family’s GoFundMe. The page says that Rodriguez was on his way to work and died from severe head injuries: “Alfonso was a person who impacted many people in a positive way with his sincere smile, gratitude, kindness & humorist way of being with people. Always engaging in conversation with others, allowing him to build friendships with many people wherever he went.”

In a social media post, the Watsonville Police Department said officers were able to locate the driver of the white 2000 Dodge Durango. The post says that the driver is cooperating with the investigation, and the department is working with the Santa Cruz County District Attorney’s office to determine the charges to be filed.

Anyone with additional information is asked to call Watsonville Police Officer Dominic Changco at 831-889-8452.
