The Santa Cruz Police Department on Friday estimated this year’s downtown Halloween crowd size to be 15,000 at its peak on Thursday night.
There were no “significant incidents of violence” this year, the department said in a release, and arrests were down compared to last year.
Police increased patrols for the holiday and had announced “triple fines” for citations during festivities.
At the end of the night, they had arrested two people for driving under the influence of alcohol and 12 for public intoxication. There was one felony arrest, according to a release, and 25 “triple fine” citations for alcohol violations, trespassing and littering.
In addition to the Santa Cruz Police Department, the California Highway Patrol, Santa Cruz County Anti-Crime Team and UC Santa Cruz Police Department assisted throughout the night, along with staff from the city’s public works, parking and parks & recreation departments.
