A teenage motorcyclist from Milpitas was killed Saturday after a collision on southbound Highway 1 near Laguna Road. The crash closed Highway 1 in both directions for several hours.
The 19-year-old was riding a yellow 2005 Suzuki motorcycle around 1 p.m. when he crashed into the back of a red 2011 Mini Cooper. He was thrown from his motorcycle, landing on the ground. Despite his helmet and medical personnel’s attempts at life-saving care, the motorcyclist died on the scene. California Highway Patrol did not provide the name of the victim.
The driver of the Mini Cooper was a 24-year-old woman from San Jose. She was transported to a hospital by ambulance and treated for minor injuries.
It’s unknown if drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident, which is still under investigation. Those with helpful information can call CHP dispatch at 831-796-2160.
