After Tuesday’s vote update, Kim De Serpa has won the District 2 Santa Cruz County supervisor seat narrowly over Kristen Brown, who conceded. De Serpa finished with a 722-vote lead over Brown, or 51% to 48%.

School district ballot measures: Most districts secure victories, Live Oak falls short
The majority of Santa Cruz County school district bond and parcel tax measures secured victories after a 4 p.m. Tuesday voting update. Live Oak School District’s Measure N was the only bond measure to fail.

Watsonville OKs development of 14 affordable single-family homes
The Watsonville City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to approve two new housing projects, on Evan Circle and Airport Road. The projects would develop a total of 18 new homes in Watsonville — 14 of which will be affordable housing.

In the race for District 2 Santa Cruz County supervisor, the Lookout Editorial Board believes that both Kristen Brown and Kim De Serpa would serve well on the county board. However, like our voters, we are forced to make a choice. In this race, we favor Kristen Brown. We believe her experience with different levels of government, her discipline and ability to command facts and a room and her deep connections to the other supervisors and local politicians make her the slightly better choice.
Heavy winds knock out power to some Santa Cruz County homes amid high alert for fire danger
Some residents of Santa Cruz County were without power Friday due to high winds knocking down trees into power lines. At the same time, Pacific Gas & Electric has implemented some Public Safety Power Shutoffs to prevent power lines from sparking fires during the dry and windy weather.
