Quick Take
A pair of events originally scheduled for UC Santa Cruz's Quarry Amphitheater in the coming days have been moved due to the ongoing pro-Palestine encampment at adjacent Quarry Plaza.
As the UC Santa Cruz encampment for Palestine remains in place in the center of campus, university officials have announced changes to several planned events.
A film screening meant to take place Saturday at the Quarry Amphitheater has been postponed to July, and a book discussion scheduled for Sunday in the amphitheater has been moved to an off-campus location.
The Talking Heads concert film “Stop Making Sense” has been postponed to Saturday, July 13, and is still scheduled to take place at the on-campus Quarry Amphitheater.
The book discussion, as part of the university’s annual communal read called “The Deep Read,” will take place this Sunday, May 19, at Kaiser Permanente Arena in downtown Santa Cruz. The live discussion will feature the book “Trust,” with author Hernan Diaz and UCSC literature professor Zac Zimmer.
Campus spokesperson Scott Hernandez-Jason said the campus doesn’t have a list of events that have been affected by the encampment in Quarry Plaza. He wrote via email, “It is up to organizers to notify attendees of any changes through whatever means are best for their event, whether it’s email, social media …”

The student encampment for Palestine was created by students on May 1, and students say they will remain in place until their demands, including divestment, are met.
UCSC officials have not announced any changes for commencement ceremonies, which are scheduled to take place June 14 to 17 in the East Upper Field.
