A woman and two children were injured after a collision between a school bus and a car on southbound Highway 17 outside Scotts Valley on Monday morning.

Officers with California Highway Patrol responded to the crash at about 9:50 a.m. just north of Vine Hill Road, the agency said in a news release. A 67-year-old woman from San Jose was driving a blue Mini Cooper southbound, while a 66-year-old man from San Jose was driving a school bus with 24 children aboard in the same direction. The Mini Cooper collided with the back of the bus, causing the car to run off the road and hit a tree.

The female driver of the Mini Cooper sustained major injuries and was transported to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in San Jose. Two of the children on the bus sustained minor injuries and were not taken to a hospital. There were two adults on the school bus, who also did not sustain any injuries.

The cause of the crash was still under investigation, and it was unknown if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.

CHP Officer Israel Murillo confirmed that the bus involved was from Cupertino Union School District. The school district did not immediately respond to Lookout’s request for comment.
